| Dr.
Valerie Kerr is a pharmacist by profession, with over 25 years of
experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Her scope of experience
embraces hospital and retail pharmacy, pharmacy education, sales,
marketing, manufacturing, international procurement, warehousing,
distribution and management.
Dr.
Kerr holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (Hons.) (UTech),
a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies (Hons.) (UWI), a
Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Hons.) (UWI),
with majors in Finance and Marketing, and a Doctorate in Business
Administration (Health Services Management) from Nova Southeastern
University.
Prior
to becoming Managing Director of Health Corporation Limited, a post
that she has held since the inception of the company in June 1994,
she was a manager in the Purchasing Division of the Jamaica Commodity
Trading Company (JCTC) for six years, managed a number of retail
pharmacies, and was lecturer and acting Programme Coordinator for
the Pharmacy programme at the College of Arts, Science and Technology
(now UTech, Jamaica). She continues to lecture on a part-time basis
in the pharmacy programme and is an external examiner for the Pharmacy
Council.
Dr.
Kerr has provided consultancy services for the establishment of
a number of retail pharmacies within Jamaica and has spoken at various
conferences on topics including ethics and the health economic implications
of patient non-compliance. She has published a paper in the peer
reviewed contemporary readings of the Academy of Business Administration
entitled Value Driven Management as an ethical decision making tool.
In
an effort to make a greater contribution to pharmacy and health
in Jamaica and the Caribbean, Dr. Kerr has held executive posts
with the Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica, the Caribbean Association
of Pharmacists and the Jamaica Association of Health Service Executives
(JAHSE) and continues to hold membership in these professional associations.
Additionally, she is a member of the Commonwealth Pharmacy Association
(CPA) and the American College of Health Service Executives (ACHE).
A healthy
lifestyle and sports enthusiast, her hobbies include listening to
gospel music, reading, and swimming. She is married, has 4 children,
and is an active member of the Covenant City Church.
