Mr.
Paul Ellis started his professional career at the University Hospital
of the West Indies (UHWI) where he remained for sixteen (16) years.
There, he consecutively occupied the positions of Chief Pharmacist
and Hospital Administrator.
After
leaving the University Hospital in 1978, Mr. Ellis joined the newly
formed Jamaica Pharmaceutical & Equipment Supplies Limited (a
subsidiary of the former Jamaica State Trading Corporation) in 1978
as its first Chairman and Managing Director. In 1981, he became
Deputy Managing Director of Jamaica Commodity Trading Company and
in 1984 became the company's Managing Director.
Mr.
Ellis left Jamaica for Barbados in 1987 to take up a position with
the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO)
as its advisor in hospital administration. In 1991, he was promoted
to the post of PAHO/WHO Country representative for Trinidad and
Tobago -- a position held until his retirement in April 1999.
He
has served on the Board of several companies in Jamaica and currently
sits on the Boards of the University Hospital of the West Indies
and Health Corporation Limited.
Mr.
Ellis, who is a Justice of the Peace for the parish of St. Andrew,
also holds membership in a number of local and foreign professional
bodies.
